The challenge

There was practically nothing to reuse. The site ran WordPress with a theme and a page builder, but apart from the portrait photo and a few lines of text there was no content to carry over. Terje wanted a site that tells people who he is and what he stands for, not a template that was never filled in.

What was built

Four pages: the front page, About, Projects and Privacy, plus a 404 page, sitemap and robots.txt. The design was chosen by Terje himself from five fully worked-out directions, not just five colour sets.

The content is his own words: the slogans he wrote himself, his actual roles and years, and three words about how he works. It only states what can be documented.

The technology

Plain HTML and CSS with no framework, no CMS and no build process. The browser reads the files directly, so the site is fast and has nothing that needs updating to stay secure.

The fonts sit on Terje's own domain instead of being loaded from Google Fonts. That's a deliberate choice: loading fonts from Google passes the visitor's IP address on, and a German court has ruled that this requires consent (LG München, 3 O 17493/20). Because everything sits on his own domain, there are no third parties and no cookie banner.

The result

A site that has gone from an empty template to four pages of real content, with everything self-hosted, including the fonts. The site is version-controlled, so every change can be tracked and rolled back.
